OPERATIONAL STRUCTURE
GAD’s projects are
directed to different kinds of independent organizations in Cuba. All
Organizations receive a basic humanitarian aid module consisting
of non-prescription drugs, toiletries, and foodstuffs. Some of the
groups receive additional items based on their specific needs.
GAD also provides
eyeglasses and dental materials to designated individuals who qualify
for those services.
·
Those Organizations primarily involved with the defense
of human rights, civil liberties, and the promotion of democratic
values. In addition to the basic module, they receive informational
materials, office supplies, faxes, laptops, and some clothing.
·
Organizations providing material
support to political prisoners and their families.
·
Independent Clinics headed by
qualified medical personnel. They receive additional assitance in the
form of donated prescription drugs, medical equipment, etc.
·
GAD’s Humanitarian Assistance Groups
(Grupos de Ayuda Humanitaria) and Independent Pharmacies Project. They
operate in close coordination with the Independent Libraries and the
Independent Clinics.
·
The independent labor and professional
organizations receive faxes, informational materials, laptops, and
office equipment and supplies.
·
The independent libraries receive video
cassete recorders, films, books, magazines, first-aid kits, and short-wave
radios.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to restrictions imposed by USAID, no cash
remittances are allowed from USAID funds. Occasionally, GAD provides
small amounts of cash from private donations to assist certain
individuals with specific needs of an emergency nature. GAD has always
maintained an agressive policy of seeking private donations, both in
medications and cash, having received almost $1,500,000 worth of audited
in-kind donations,
